Live Like You Give a Damn

As I delve deeper into holistic health and yoga practices, I find it impossible to live life in a passive manner. Once you know something – whether it’s the effects of your actions/inactions on your physical body or the planet, or how your internal dialogue sets the course for your interpersonal relationships, or a myriad of other things – you cannot continue to be satisfied with status quo.

Good stewardship is a concept known within most every religious practice. Even from a scientific standpoint, one can certainly grasp the concept of stewardship for the planet we have inherited from our forefathers. Yet I am amazed at how few people choose to actually live like they give a damn – in how they feed themselves or treat their bodies, their homes and other surroundings, the planet, their fellow-man . . .

I don’t think you can practice good stewardship in one area of your life without it eventually spilling over into every area of your life – not if you are genuine in your pursuit.

I feel like a squeaky wheel with my admonition to practice “mindfulness.” Mindfulness sounds so counter-culture to some. Some may even find the idea wimpy or too abstract. How’s this for a more blunt alternative: Live like you give a damn.
